Move by evidence.

The Atlas no longer pretends the project has a meaningful state for every calendar year. Each position is a frozen research bookmark. If later research finds a major structural break between two bookmarks, another snapshot can simply be inserted.

DISPLAY RULE Equal screen spacing means next research snapshot — not equal elapsed time.

The map changes only when you move to another research bookmark. No intermediate calendar year is asserted.

Snapshots can be inserted later.

The bookmark sequence is intentionally adaptive. A major carrier change, split/merge, amplifier shift, institutional redesign or mechanism threshold can justify a new snapshot between two existing ones. The interface does not need to preserve regular calendar intervals.
